Wall and Scenery by Richard Walker (b. 1955) captures a flattened perspective of various items stacked alongside a brown wall. Most of the items are boxes, depicted with rectangular strokes of brown colour tones, with some items within shown with thin paint strokes. These rectangular brush strokes also make up the wall, painted as the first layer and the items painted over top, whereas the grey floor was painted similarly but possibly as the last component as brush strokes fill in around the items. The item behind the grey rectangle could be an unfinished painting, as it appears to have a tan figure on a black background and stands out amongst the other items.
Walker was well known for observational and interior paintings, often depicting even artist studios, which is possibly what is depicted here. This work contains elements of observational realism, where Walker has depicted the room and items exactly as they appear from his viewpoint, rather than creating an impression of the items.
