Ernest Archibald Taylor, 1874-1951
E A Taylor was a painter, printmaker, stained glass artist, and furniture designer from Greenock, Renfrewshire. He studied art at the Glasgow School of Art. In 1908, he married the artist Jessie M King and moved to Manchester, where he managed and designed stained glass for George Wragge Ltd. Prior to World War I, the Taylors lived in Paris from 1911 to 1914. They established Atelier Shearling there, and after settling in Kirkcudbright, they ran a summer school on the Isle of Arran. Taylor's art was influenced by Modern French art, the Scottish Colourists, and the Ballets Russes. Several of Taylor's paintings can be found in public collections, including the Glasgow Museums.
