ARTIST PROFILE

Michael Scott, 1946-2006

Scottish painter Michael Scott (Mike Scott) was born in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, in 1946. He specialised in post-World War and contemporary art. Scott first majored in political science between 1965 and 1968 in Liverpool before enrolling in a one-year teaching preparation program in Huddersfield. Following his relocation to Glasgow, Scott accepted a full-time position in sociological research at Glasgow University, which was followed by a lecturing position at the newly renamed Glasgow Caledonian University. By 1997, there was such a high demand for his art that he began painting full-time. Scott spent roughly fifteen years taking part-time drawing classes at the Glasgow School of Art under John Boyd. In 1989 he won the David Cargill Senior Award at Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, in 1991 the Paper Tiger Award 1990. In 1990 he was elected a professional member of SSWA.
