Journeys End

John Brown

DESCRIPTION

The poignant Journey's End captures Brown's emotions concerning death, decay and loss. He found this beaten-up boat abandoned on a beach; no longer seaworthy, it has been left to rot and so had, literally come to the end of its journey.

ARTIST PROFILE

John Brown RSW, born 1945

From 1963 to 1968 Brown trained at Glasgow School of Art, where he was strongly influenced by the vision and discipline of his tutors, David Donaldson and Duncan Shanks. He is still battling with the compositional elements of his paintings, taking an aesthetic and adventurous approach to arrangement, depth, texture and colour. Paper collage adds texture and interest to the surfaces of drawings and paintings without fully disrupting the pictorial illusion or sacrificing the value of drawing, which binds the elements together into a harmonious composition.
