Jamaica Bridge, Glasgow

Charles Lauder

DESCRIPTION

Jamaica Street Bridge (known as Glasgow Bridge) crosses the River Clyde, connecting the city's commercial heart with the Gorbals and the road to Kilmarnock and Ayr. On the far left is part of the bridge carrying the Caledonian Railway to Central Station. Immediately downstream is the Broomielaw, where cargo ships used to dock. Later, pleasure steamers plied from there, taking Glaswegians to such resorts as Dunoon and Rothesay on Sundays and public holidays.
