Robert Noble RA ARSA PSSA, 1857-1917
Born in Edinburgh, Noble was tutored in the studio of his cousin James Campbell Noble, a painter of landscape and rustic genre, before enrolling in the Royal Scottish Academy's Life Class. He spent a further period in Paris at the atelier of Émile Carolus-Duran. In 1889 he settled in the village of East Linton, East Lothian, at that time the base of a group of landscape painters that included W.D. McKay and Robert McGregor.
