Alexander Hardie, 1910-1989
Hardie, born in Aberdeen, was a self-taught artist with a fine sense of colour in the Scottish tradition, who painted mainly landscapes, latterly still life and portraits, whilst following a more scientific career path. With a Bachelor of Sciences, Hardie spent time as a research electrical engineer, then commissioned service in the Royal Air Force, 1939–46, before turning to lecturing in electronics and physics at Aberdeen University and the University of Bath. He was elected RWA in 1970 and was a member of the Bristol Savages. He showed with Aberdeen Artists’ Society, RSA and had several solo exhibitions.
