A painter of portraits and landscapes, Lintott worked extremely slowly. He kept paintings in his studio in St Bernard Crescent, Edinburgh, sometimes for years, often reworking them again and again.

Henry John Lintott RSA, 1877-1965
Born in Brighton, Sussex, Lintott studied at Brighton College of Art, the Royal College of Art in London and then in Paris and Italy. Around 1902 he joined the teaching staff at Edinburgh School of Art, soon thereafter to be reconstituted as Edinburgh College of Art. He became an important member of staff during the college's years of great development and creativity, and was an inspired teacher greatly respected by his students.
