Although predominantly a landscape painter, Mooney turns often to the still life when in her studio. They reveal a technical accomplishment in paint, particularly in the effect of stems seen through water and glass. She writes, 'Like the landscapes, painting flowers is a way of building my relationship with paint, which is key to my ability and confidence to express any subject matter.'

Hannah Mooney, born 1995
Hannah Mooney was born in Co. Donegal, Ireland. She studied at University of Ulster and Glasgow School of Art. She currently works in two distinct subjects; still life and landscape. In both she is an instinctive, natural painter deeply concerned with the matière and traditional composition. Mooney's Irish heritage is ultimately the driving force behind her work. She returns frequently to Co. Mayo and Co. Donegal to observe the nuances, lyricalism and subdued colour palette of the Irish landscape.
Since graduating in 2017 she has won the Royal Scottish Academy Landscape Drawing Prize, John-Kinross Scholarship, James Nicol McBroom Memorial Prize, Armour Prize, Glasgow Print Studio Publication Prize, Hottinger Award for Excellence. In 2018 at the New Contemporaries Exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh she received the Art in Healthcare Award and Fleming-Wyfold Bursary.
