David Hosie, born 1962
Glasgow-born Hosie studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1980 to 1986. After graduating he began to exhibit widely in Britain, Germany, Italy and America. In 1992 he won the major prize at the Royal Glasgow Institute and in 1996 was a prize winner at the BP National Portrait Exhibition. Much of the subject-matter of Hosie's painting is drawn from his daily surroundings in the Lothian Road area of Edinburgh. He is particularly interested in recording the nightlife of the area, such as men and girls in pubs, as well as solitary figures who seem isolated from their environment.
