According to the artist, this is one of six paintings that allude to the environmental catastrophe caused when the Braer tanker ran aground and broke up on the southern coast of the Shetland Isles. The message is subtle but unmistakable: one is a direct danger to the quality and beauty of the other.

Alan Robb, 1946-2020
Robb was Head of the School of Fine Art at Duncan Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee. He explored many themes in his paintings, including Classicism and academicism, but with a constant underlying edge of irony and humour. He worked in a variety of media, always with superb handling of detail.
