ARTIST PROFILE

Archie Forrest, born 1950

Born in Glasgow, Forrest studied at Glasgow School of Art and went on to teach there for seven years, leaving in 1985 to concentrate on his own painting. He is a contemporary painter working in a Scottish Colourist tradition, with still life, figurative and landscape subjects, inspired by the work of Matisse, Soutine, Cezanne and the Glasgow School. He is particularly known for his handling of colour, underpinned by strong drawing. He exhibits regularly at the RSA and RGI and has work in public and private collections. He is also a sculptor and has won awards for both painting and sculpture.
