Bothwell Street Reflection

Jackie Anderson

DESCRIPTION

Anderson’s portraits explores gesture, movement and notions of privacy in public, she catches her subjects unaware, presenting their most private moments, those spent alone in public. Her imagery is often based on photographs taken of strangers as they move through urban spaces. Near transparent washes of paint record these people passing by, lost in their own thoughts. Otherwise banal, forgotten moments of everyday life are transformed into striking, evocative images. The transparent washes of paint give the surface an appearance of having been stained rather than painted upon, resulting in an unusually fragile image.
