The subjects and imagery of Bernard's work refer to various themes, including notions of tradition and ritual, nature and community, abundance and necessity, completion and cycles. Her multidisciplinary practice, incorporating oil paintings as well as installation, explores multiple narratives which navigate a parallel world that throws up ambiguities in society and relationships. The paintings become set pieces enabling the viewer to imagine the parallel realm in full.
