Originally initiated in the summer of 2020 as an alternative boost to creativity for anybody of school age who had endured many months of home-schooling and uncertainty during COVID, we hope to continue to encourage school pupils to embrace their artistic gifts again this summer.

The task at hand is to produce an artwork inspired by the Fleming Collection. This might mean you’re inspired to paint a still life in the manner of the Scottish Colourists or you wish to create your own version of Elizabeth Blackadder's Cat and Flowers : creativity can take many forms! To find inspiration, search our collection online.

To enter, email images of the artwork and details of the inspiration to info@flemingcollection.com with the subject line ‘Fleming Collection Young People’s Art Competition’. Please include the name and age of the competition entrant. The deadline for entry is 30th June.

2022 Age Under 11 Winner, Chieyiem Nwigwe, Aged 9, Inspired by Agnes Miller Parker's 'The Uncivilized Cat'

The competition will be judged in July in three age categories, under 11s, 11-16 year olds and 16-18 year olds, with a first prize of £50 art supplies vouchers. This will be followed up by runners up in each category, who will receive a copy of our publication ‘A History of Scottish Art’ for future inspiration.

We hope this competition will kick start a summer of creativity and we would like parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, older siblings and teachers themselves to get the young artists involved! Follow us on social media or via our newsletter for updates.

2021 Age 16-18 Winner, Olivia Webb, Still Life Reflections
