Jake Harvey RSA, born 1948
Jake Harvey is a sculptor who was born in 1948 in Kelso, Roxburghshire. From 1966 to 1972, he studied sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art. Harvey proceeded to become the School of Sculpture's Head for eleven years. He has become Emeritus Professor of Sculpture and lives and works in Maxton, Scotland's Borders. Harvey served as a trustee of the Scottish Sculpture Trust from 1984 to 2007. Jake Harvey is a sculptor who creates elemental works that are infused with stillness, sensory stimulation, and an intricate Serene simplicity. He carves simple abstract forms from granite, basalt, marble, and limestone, often placing them directly on the wall or floor, or sometimes on shaped bases that can be set indoors or outdoors within a landscape. In 1985, he had a one-man show at Glasgow's Third Eye Centre, in 1993 at Edinburgh's Scottish Gallery, and in 1998 at Morioka's The Crystal Gallery. His work is held by the Scottish Arts Council and the Contemporary Art Society. In 1989, Harvey was elected to the RSA.
